21 June 2017

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) has welcomed the NSW Government's Budget announcement of a $1.5 million Aboriginal Fishing Trust Fund.

Funding over three years for the Trust Fund was announced in the 2017-18 Budget.

NSWALC Chair Roy Ah-See thanked Minister for Primary Industries Niall Blair.

"For Aboriginal peoples, fishing is about feeding our families and communities and retaining customs that go to the heart of our culture and identity.

"The NSW Aboriginal Land Council looks forward to working with the NSW Government to ensure the benefits of the Trust are fully realised and Aboriginal peoples are genuinely involved in decision-making."
