NSW Aboriginal Land Council pays tribute to outgoing NSW Premier

20 January 2017

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) has paid tribute to Premier Mike Baird for his efforts in building a stronger relationship between the NSW Government and the Land Rights network.

NSWALC Chair Roy Ah-See said the Land Rights network appreciated Premier Baird'sleadership and commitment in Aboriginal Affairs.

"As Premier, Mike Baird has overseen a strong, professional working relationship with the NSW Aboriginal Land Council.

"In late 2014, Mike Baird was the first Premier to support a referendum on Constitutional recognition of Australia's First Peoples.

"His government has worked with the Land Rights network on amendments to legislation to empower us to unlock the economic potential of our land and create jobs for Aboriginal people.

"The Baird Government has also worked hard to help clear the backlog of outstanding land claims.

"In recent months, the Baird Government has worked for the benefit of Aboriginal peoples with a $73 million compensation package for survivors of the Stolen Generations and their families and has committed resources to the protection and revitalisation of Aboriginal languages.

"The Land Rights network acknowledges Mike Baird's personal commitment to improving the lives of Aboriginal peoples.

"The NSW Aboriginal Land Council hopes that Mike Baird's successor as Premier will continue to listen to the views of Aboriginal peoples and to work in partnership with the Land Rights network."
