NSWALC Election Promotional Campaign Launched

Land Council members across New South Wales are being urged to “Make Your Mark” in 2019 by voting in the NSWALC Council election on November 30.

The campaign slogan was launched in conjunction with NAIDOC Week with posters and information flyers being distributed across the state.

Members are being urged to contact their Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) to update their contact details before the electoral roll closes on September 9.

“It is crucial for everyone to contact their LALC and just make sure their contact details are registered correctly,” NSWALC Acting Chief Executive Yuseph Deen said.

“We fully understand that people lead busy lifestyles, especially on a Saturday in the warmer months, so we anticipate significant interest and demand for postal voting this year.”

“But in order to do that, members’ contact details need to be up-to-date. It’s the only way to ensure you get all the relevant information and most importantly your voting form to lodge your vote.”

“So we’re urging all members to get in early and at least cross check their details before the roll closes on September 9. We’d hate for anyone to miss out on the chance to Make Their Mark because of something as simple as a clerical error.”

The initial promotional campaign features a striking hand-print motif as the centre-piece of the design. It is taken from an incredible piece of artwork by 17 year-old Menindee artist Taya Biggs, who was engaged by NSWALC for the campaign.

Her painting “Coming Together. Sharing Knowledge. Fighting for Rights” is being used as the theming print for the 2019 election. The more intricate details of Taya’s striking canvas will be revealed over the coming weeks.

“We are thrilled to be working with Taya. She is extremely talented and the fact that it is her hand print sitting front and centre of our early promotional activity is so symbolic of everything NSWALC strives to achieve,” Mr Deen said.

“Taya is a proud and gifted young Aboriginal woman who is using her skills to build a vibrant career for herself from regional New South Wales. She represents hope and the future.”

“We want all of our existing members and those considering joining to see that there is a great opportunity to make your mark in 2019, especially our youth. Voting is a key plank in exercising that right and having your say in the future for Aboriginal people in New South Wales.”

Members have until September 9 to ensure their contact details are correct. More information about the 2019 NSWALC Election can be found at www.alc.org.au.
