NSWALC Strategic Plan open for consultation

4 October 2017

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) is inviting the Land Rights network to comment on its draft Strategic Plan 2018-22.

NSWALC Chair Roy Ah-See said the draft Strategic Plan identified the vision and values to guide how the nation's largest member-based organisation will work with Local Aboriginal Land Councils, its members and Aboriginal peoples.

"The Strategic Plan returns to the demands for full-scale Land Rights that the NSW Aboriginal Land Council made when it began 40 years ago.

"To this demand, the NSW Aboriginal Land Council adds the demand for a treaty."

The Strategic Plan agenda is built around five goals:

  • Protecting our culture and heritage
  • Pursuing our full Land and Water rights
  • Economic independence and prosperity for our peoples
  • Support for our peoples
  • Securing our future

The draft Strategic Plan can be accessed here.

Cr Ah-See said the Strategic Plan would build on the strength of the network's 120 Local Aboriginal Land Councils and its 23,000 members.

Each year, members would be asked to identify specific actions they would like the NSWALC Council to consider when it approves the annual plan of action under the high-level goals.

All comments are welcome and must be received by 6 November, 2017.
