Murrin Bridge Preschool and Community Hub left a lasting impression on Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, and her husband, Mr Dennis Wilson, during their visit last week.
Murrin Bridge LALC CEO, Narelle Hall, shared “They went home with five pictures from the kids!”
The couple were warmly welcomed by Murrin Bridge LALC before spending the day learning about the Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) and community. Their visit included stops at the Murrin Bridge Preschool and Aboriginal Health Service, and a trip to Lake Cargelligo, where they met local health professionals and community leaders.
More than just a recognition of Murrin Bridge’s achievements, the visit highlighted the power of community collaboration. The Governor and Mr Wilson’s time at the Murrin Bridge Preschool and Community Hub was a testament to the strength and vision of the community-led project, which has transformed early education and essential services in the area. Murrin Bridge LALC CEO, Narelle Hall, reflected on its impact, stating, “This project shows what we can achieve when we work together as a community.” The Governor’s visit reinforced the importance of this commitment to collaboration, culture, and self-determination in shaping the future of Murrin Bridge.
The Governor praised the efforts of local communities, recognising the dedication and resilience of the region, “These communities really do ‘punch above their weight’ in areas such as agriculture, land care, manufacturing, and community health and well-being,’’ she told the Region Riverina website.
Reflecting on the visit, Ms Hall expressed how much the occasion meant to the community, saying, “The atmosphere was so comfortable and respectful … it was such an honour to welcome them.” The Governor’s presence not only celebrated the progress of Murrin Bridge but also recognised the ambition and strength of the Murrin Bridge community, and the strong future that is being built for the next generation.
