473rd NSWALC Council Meeting

19 August, 2025

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) met for its 473rd Council meeting on Wednesday, 30 July 2025.

During the meeting, Councillors discussed key strategic matters alongside discussing the critical challenges and opportunities faced by NSWALC, Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALCs), and communities across NSW. Councillors also endorsed several key items that will bring notable benefits to LALCs and communities across the State.

Summary

The Council considered and approved a NSWALC Sponsorship Grant in-kind for the 2025 NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout Carnival – otherwise known as the Koori Knockout.

NSWALC has been a long-term supporter of the Koori Knockout. The Council are pleased to be supporting the event again this year.

The 2025 Koori Knockout will be held from 3-6 October 2025 at the Riverside Sporting Complex in Tamworth. Walgett Aboriginal Connection, the winners of last year’s Men’s Knockout, will host the tournament.

Outcome

The NSWALC Sponsorship Grant will help organisers cover the registration fees for teams across the State, making the Koori Knockout more accessible for communities from across New South Wales. The 2024 Koori Knockout featured 138 teams and was an incredible showcase of the talent and passion of Aboriginal communities. Council is looking forward to the 2025 Koori Knockout being one of the biggest yet.

As part of the sponsorship, NSWALC will have a presence at the event, including an information stall to engage the local community in attendance.

Summary

The Council considered and approved a NSWALC Sponsorship Grant for the 2026 NSW Elders Olympics.

In recent years, the NSW Elders Olympics has become a premier event on the NSW Aboriginal events calendar. The Council is proud to once again support an event that brings such pride and unity, and celebrates the valuable contributions of our Elders from across the State.

The 2026 Elders Olympics will be held from 10-13 March 2026 in Maclean. The Maclean Elders, featuring NSWALC Councillor Diane Randall, will host the event following their victory at Inverell in 2025.

Outcome

The NSWALC Sponsorship Grant will support event hosts Maclean Elders to cover the running costs of the 2026 Elders’ Olympics. The event will support positive health, cultural and social outcomes for Aboriginal communities across the state.

As part of the grant, NSWALC will have a presence at the event, including an information stall to engage the local community in attendance.
