Those living in the Tamworth district will be in a for a treat with new Tamworth Regional Council corporate branding featuring proud Gomeroi artist, and Tamworth LALC employee, Tess Reading.
“My artwork that I created for the Tamworth Regional Council is inspired by the LGA,’’ Tess said. “So within that space I’ve covered the main town centres so we’ve got Tamworth, Nundle, Manilla and Barraba which are represented by the yellow meeting places, and then around that is the little communities, such as Kingswood, that are represented in the green gathering circles, and also within the design I’ve included the riverways and any animals that are in our area such as kangaroos and emus.
Tess’s amazing design will feature across multiple platforms including Council uniforms, street banners, business cards, and social media. Tamworth Council tells us they have been rolling out the designs this week, so keep a lookout!
Tess has worked in the Land Rights space for the past 5 years, with a focus on the art and culture program, which focuses on women’s social and emotional wellbeing from ages 15 above. “I’ve used (art) as a way of coping, sharing my emotions and telling my story. I’ve found that with the Lands Council, being able to give that to other women in the community really helpful,’’ Tess said.
“Almost 10,000 Aboriginal people call the Tamworth region home, and to be able to include the story and the voice of Aboriginal people within the corporate branding of the organisation is a really historic step,” said Tamworth Councillor Marc Sutherland.
In 2022 Council received community feedback in its Communications Strategy consultation for better inclusivity and respect in its communications, and the inclusion of the Aboriginal artistic element into the corporate brand is an action from that strategy.
“Council is really proud to adopt this piece of artwork, which recognizes the connection of the Kamilaroi/Gomeroi people to the Tamworth region,” said General Manager Paul Bennett.
“The project has been two years in the making.”
