14 April, 2025
Students from Collarenebri Central School, including K–6 classes and the Years 7–8 Gaba Warangal Malagan girls’ leadership team, recently took part in the River Country program—a creative, two-hour workshop held in Moree on 4 April 2025.
Led by Petaurus Education Group in partnership with the National Museum of Australia, The Cad Factory, and cultural advisors Phil Duncan and Cameron, the workshop encouraged students to explore the deep connection between community, culture, and waterways.
Through reflection and storytelling, students shared why their local rivers and wetlands matter, discussed what’s happening in their towns, and expressed what “River Country” means to them.
As part of the workshop, students created stunning artworks inspired by river animals to represent their personal river stories. These works will feature in the upcoming River Country exhibition before being returned to the students at the end of the national tour.
The event offered a valuable opportunity for Collarenebri students to celebrate Country, culture, and creativity—showing once again the strength of young voices in caring for our rivers.
