The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) has started work on the 2026 review of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW) (ALRA), opening up a survey and releasing a discussion paper for community feedback.
This review is an important opportunity to modernise the ALRA and ensure it continues to uphold the aspirations, rights and self-determination of not only Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALCs) and Aboriginal communities across NSW.
As part of the early stages of this review, NSWALC is seeking broad feedback from you all – our NSW Land Rights Network – on the key issues, challenges and priorities for reform.
To support this, NSWALC has:
- Developed a discussion paper outlining key themes and potential areas for reform
- Created an online survey here to capture feedback, experiences and suggestions from across the network.
The consultation period opened from 30 January to 13 March. LALCs are strongly encouraged to:
- Participate directly in the consultation process
- Share the materials with their members and communities
- Facilitate local discussions where possible to inform responses.
Your input will play a critical role in shaping the priorities, policy parameters and reform agenda for the ALRA review, ensuring it reflects the lived experience and collective voice of Aboriginal landowners across the State.
