Three Days to go before the 2024 NSWALC Elections! Polling Locations Confirmed Around NSW

21 February, 2024

Eligible Members of the Land Rights Network will go to the polls this Saturday 24 February 2024 for the NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) Elections, to elect the new Council to represent the membership for the next four years.

27 candidates will contest their respective Region. A list of candidates and their biographies are available: https://alc.org.au/2024-nswalc-election/candidate-bios/

The Central Region is uncontested, and Grace Toomey has become Councillor for that Region. This means that eligible Members across Central Region will not need to vote on Saturday.

136 polling locations have been set up across the other eight NSWALC Regions.

NSWALC has provided information and addresses on polling places across the state via our social media channels and our website. Polling locations with maps are also available on the NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) website.

Voting on Election Day

Election day is this Saturday, 24 February 2024.

On election day, Members may only vote at a polling place within the Region where they are enrolled as a voting Member.

Polling places will be open from 8am to 6pm, with the exception of Central Region.

Postal Voting

Applications for the postal voting option have now closed.

If any Members have missed the deadline, they will need to vote in person at a polling location within the Region where they are enrolled as a voting Member.

Members who have successfully applied need to check their mailbox for their vote pack, which includes ballot papers and other relevant information. The vote pack will be sent to their registered address, and will come from the NSWEC.

When to send postal vote papers back to the NSWEC

Members must vote and complete their ballot paper by 6pm on election day, February 24. They will also need to have their Declaration witnessed by a person over the age of 18 on the same day.

Completed ballot papers must be mailed to the NSWEC as soon as possible. The Returning Officer at the NSW Electoral Commission must receive them by 6pm on Friday, 8 March 2024 for the vote to be considered valid.

When will we know the final result?

The poll will be declared by the NSWEC on 12 March 2024. This is to allow time for valid postal votes to reach the Returning Officer and be counted.
