Who is Terry Hill?
Doing nothing and remaining silent is not an option for Terry Hill
The South Coast for far too long has suffered at the hand of leaders not speaking out and leaders not engaging or consulting community. I will commit to ensuring I engage and listen to our organisations and community on matters that are important to them.
My drive, passion, enthusiasm and politics comes from many years in our “struggle” . I worked with and alongside many of our past leaders such as the late Charlie Perkins, Uncle Chicka Dixon, Lowitja, and the many activists of the time and served as a Secretariate Officer to the Binal Billa Regional Council and the high level Advisory body to the Sydney Olympic Committee, including, the late Tiger Bayles, Sol Bellear, Charlie Perkins, Lowitja, Eyvonne Goolagong, Evelyn Scott, John Moriarty and others.
I have been involved in community since I left school firstly as a Teachers Aide at Cleveland Street Boys High School, then progressing to the level of Regional Manager of the former Commonwealth of Aboriginal Affairs / ATSIC in Broken Hill and Wagga Wagga.
After my roles in ATSIC , I joined the NSW Department of Housing as a Senior Policy Advisor in A then joining a small specialised team with the Sydney Olympics 2000.
Following this I joined the NSW Fire Brigades for 10 years as their Aboriginal Services Officer then 2 years at the RFS. The current efforts to reintroduce traditional fire management into the fire services is a direct result of my efforts whilst at the two Fire Services.
Whilst at the Fire Services I also worked closely with the Ambulance Service to increase the number of Aboriginal people in their service
In recent times I have worked with the Merrimans LALC and the I am currently with the Primary Health Network – Coordinare ensuring culturally safe services are developed in the mainstream.
I have been politically active for many years and I have always spoken out for issues that concern our people.
More recently during the devastating bushfires I was the only community person that spoke out publicly (ABC Radio) about the treatment of our people at Disaster Relief Centres especially our Elders.
My network is broad and I enjoy a good reputation within government and the Regions and communities I have serviced over the last 45 years.
I am a Yuin Woman from the Far South Coast; I grew up at Milton /Ulladulla in the 60’s before moving to Nowra in the late 70’s
Being a Generational Person my passion is to empower Aboriginal people with knowledge, Both Cultural & Cooperate to enable Unity.
I am an active Voting Member of Nowra LALC, Non-Voting Member of Ulladulla & Gandangara LALC’s
I have been involved in Land Rights since the Early 80’s & Minute Taker/Sec and promoted to Office Manager at NSWALC 1994.
Employed by the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Lands Council as Personal Assistant to the CEO, CDEP Co-ordinator at times Acting CEO.
I am the Director of the Sacred Murring. It is a sacred Aboriginal Woman’s Organisation – Yuin Woman make up its Membership!
My Goals are to promote and support greater pathways for Caring for Country. Management and Environmental controls by Aboriginal Communities throughout South Coast Region.
Enhance opportunities for Our Youth to participate in the NSWALC Network from a local to State Level.
Establish Woman’s Business Networks across LALCS & Local Aboriginal Communities in Our Region.
The reason I am running in the NSWALC elections is to bring around change.
Great change will come from the hands of many!
In 1975: the Australian Senate unanimously endorsed a resolution acknowledging prior ownership of Australia by
Aboriginal people & seeking compensation for their dispossession.
People are yet to be compensated for the dispossession of their Lands.
The change comes with Generational Wealth and Equal Distribution of it!
