The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) is advising the Network that a revised operating model for the Southern Zone has been approved by the Council following its endorsement of permanent regional offices in Batemans Bay and Griffith in July 2026.
The Southern Zone, which is the largest zone within the Network, currently supports 34 LALCs across the South Coast and Wiradjuri regions.
Given the size and geographic spread of both the South Coast and Wiradjuri regions, a stronger and more accessible regional presence is needed to ensure we can continue to meet the needs of our LALCs and communities within these regions.
NSWALC confirms that the newly approved operating model has been designed to address these challenges through an expanded staffing structure to support the permanent regional offices in both Batemans Bay and Griffith.
Under the newly confirmed structure, the Zone Director will be based in Batemans Bay and will retain strategic oversight and accountability for the entire Southern Zone. The Operations Manager, now based in Griffith, will provide senior day-to-day operational leadership across the Wiradjuri Region.
The revised operating model will:
- Increase staffing capacity to provide direct, localised support to LALCs.
- Improve geographic coverage across the South Coast and Wiradjuri regions.
- Enable more planned, proactive engagement with LALCs.
- Improve operational flexibility during staff leave, vacancies and periods of increased demand.
- Reduce unnecessary travel by allocating work based on geographic proximity, allowing staff to spend more time supporting LALCs.
The revised operating model will be implemented from November 2026. For further information about these changes, or to learn more, please contact Dana Hogg, dana.hogg@alc.org.au or Lana Callaghan, lana.callaghan@alc.org.auÂ
