New Councillor Appointed for Sydney/ Newcastle Region

The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council has welcomed the appointment of Theresa (Ellis) Malone to its Council.

Mrs Malone will take on the role of Councillor for the Sydney/ Newcastle region, a post which has been vacant since July 1.

She has been appointed to the role by the NSW Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Don Harwin.

Her appointment will take affect from 9 September, 2019.

“This is a fantastic appointment by the Minister and NSWALC is delighted that we have a new representative for the Sydney/ Newcastle region,” NSWALC Chairperson Anne Dennis said.

Mrs Malone is a proud Warumungu and Gomeroi woman, who grew up in the western suburbs of Sydney and is long-serving member and advocate of the Land Rights movement.

“I am humbled to be joining Council and excited about the opportunity to represent the Sydney/ Newcastle region,” Mrs Malone said.

“I have always observed with interest the great initiatives NSWALC has been undertaking to secure a better future for all Aboriginal people. Now I am looking forward to playing my role in continuing that work.”

One of the first order of business, for Councillor Malone will be holding a Sydney/Newcastle Regional Forum.  Arrangements are currently being finalised and will be circulated shortly.
