The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) has announced the successful recipients of the 2024 Regional Event Grants program. This year, 20 community organisations have been awarded grants to host events throughout the upcoming financial year, showcasing the rich culture of Aboriginal communities across the state.
The selection process this year was particularly challenging due to a record number of applications, reflecting the growing interest and importance of community-driven events in celebrating Aboriginal culture and heritage.
Raymond Kelly, Chairperson of the NSWALC, congratulated all the successful applicants, highlighting the significance of these grants in fostering community pride and connection. “These grants offer a fantastic opportunity for Aboriginal communities to celebrate through music, sport, and the arts,” said Chairperson Kelly. “Community Events are vital in contributing to a vibrant community and positive outcomes for our people.”
Among the standout recipients this year is Kinchela Boys Home Inc., awarded a grant to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of Kinchela Boys Home. This milestone event promises to be a poignant tribute to the resilience of its community members.
Other notable highlights include The National A&TSI Basketball Association’s Battle of the Countries 2024, the Aboriginal Tent Embassy NAIDOC celebration, and the Giiyong Festival, each contributing uniquely to the cultural landscape.
The NSW Aboriginal Land Council extends its gratitude to all applicants for their dedication to preserving and promoting Aboriginal culture and looks forward to supporting these events in the coming year.
