Engage in the 2024 NSWALC Elections: Land Rights Network Encourages Members to Have their Vote Count

9 February, 2024

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) urges Members to actively participate in the 2024 NSWALC Elections being held on February 24.

A strong voter turnout is important in setting the future direction of NSWALC and help build on the success and strength of the Network.

The new Council will be responsible for allocating NSWALC’s resources and making decisions on a range of important issues affecting Aboriginal people in New South Wales.

Voting is easy, with 107 locations being established across the state, and a postal vote option is also available for anyone who can’t vote in person on the day or lives outside of their region.

The NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) is setting up voting locations across NSW, with 15 locations now confirmed across the Mid North Coast Region, 15 across the North Coast Region, 13 in the North Western Region, 17 in the Northern Region, 15 in the South Coast Region, 22 across the Sydney Newcastle Region, 6 in the Western Region and 22 in the Wiradjuri Region.

A full list of polling places is available on the NSWEC website:  2024 NSW Aboriginal Land Council elections – NSW Electoral Commission

Navigating postal voting can be challenging for Elders and other mob who may need assistance. The information in this Network Message should help you assist any Members who need it.

Voting on Election Day

Election day will be held on Saturday, 24 February 2024.

On election day, Members can only vote at a polling place within the Region where they are enrolled as a voting Member.

Polling places will be open from 8am to 6pm.

Postal Voting

If Members can’t vote in person and/or are outside their region, they can apply for a postal vote.

Postal vote applications must be received by the NSW Electoral Commission by 6pm on Monday, 19 February 2024.

If Members download and complete a postal vote form, they will need to email or post the form back to the NSW Electoral Commission or deliver it to the NSWEC in Sydney during office hours. Further details are on the form.

When to send postal vote papers back to the NSWEC

Once Members have received postal vote ballot papers, they must vote and complete their papers by 6pm on election day, February 24.

Completed ballot papers must be mailed to the NSWEC as soon as possible, to ensure the Returning Officer receives them by 6pm on Friday, 8 March 2024.
