Grace Toomey stands down as Councillor for the Central Region

22 November, 2023

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) Councillor for the Central Region, Grace Toomey has been disqualified from holding office pursuant to s132(1)(i) of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 and has stood down.

Grace undertook a onetime secondary employment without approval of the Council and despite donating her remuneration, was disqualified as a result.

Grace has been on the NSWALC Council since 2019 and has been an invaluable member and contributed to both Council and the Central Region. Grace’s dedication and expertise has been instrumental during her time with NSWALC Council.

The matter was reported to the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs, David Harris. The Minister is working to appoint a Councillor for the Central Region and will make an announcement shortly.

In the interim, for all Central Region related matters, please contact the Western Zone office on westernzone@alc.org.au.
