Network Message: 19th Session of the United Nations Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) is participating in the 19th session of the United Nations Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP). 

Established in 2007 with the mandate to provide the Human Rights Council with expertise and advice on the rights of Indigenous Peoples, EMRIP assists Member States in achieving their goals of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. 

By participating in EMRIP, NSWALC leverages its status as a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) with consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to advocate for its priorities on a global stage. 

This year, Councillor for the North Western Region, Anne Dennis is representing NSWALC. 

Now, more than ever, it is vital for NSWALC to voice its concerns with international stakeholders and global policy decision-makers as we are continuing to fight for our rights in NSW. In the wake of the NSW Government’s Crown Lands Management Amendment Bill, it is a crucial time for advocacy and tabling NSWALC’s and the Land Rights Network’s concerns.
