The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) would like to reassure the Land Rights Network that the NSWALC Funeral Grants scheme remains available for all eligible community members.

This follows community concern over the status of a funeral fund operated by another company, which has gone into liquidation.

The fund concerned is the Aboriginal Community Benefit Fund (ACBF) No. 2 Pty Ltd which is owned by the funeral insurer Youpla and has no connection with NSWALC Funeral Grants.

NSWALC Funeral Fund and Funeral Grants

  • The former NSWALC Funeral Insurance Fund was closed in February 1994. Members of the former Funeral Insurance Fund, who were financial members at the time it closed, remain eligible for a grant of up to $5000 for ‘Claimable Funeral Expenses’, paid to a funeral service provider.
  • Aboriginal people who were not financial members of the former Funeral Insurance Fund are eligible for a grant of up to $1000 for ‘Claimable Funeral Expenses’, in accordance with the NSWALC Funeral Fund Terms & Conditions, paid to a funeral service provider.

Please go to this link for the Terms and Conditions for the NSWALC Funeral Fund. The NSWALC Funeral Fund Application Form is available here.

If you have any questions about eligibility, you can call us on 02 9689 4444 or toll free on 1800 647 487.
