The NSW Ombudsman, in accordance with the Ombudsman Act 1974, has commenced an investigation into the handling of asbestos containing material (ACM) by the Environment Protection Authority and Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure in discrete Aboriginal communities in NSW.
The Ombudsman has advised that it may need to consult with Aboriginal communities, Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALC), and the NSW Aboriginal Land Council, as part of the investigation process.Ā
Key objectives of the investigation include the identification, assessment, and remediation of ACM.
