NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) and the Land Rights Network mourn the passing of Lee Patterson, a proud Kamilaroi man, who was there for all.
Lee will be remembered for his commitment and dedication to the Land Rights network and his extensive involvement as Manager and Member of the Guyra LALC and as Regional Manager of the NSWALC Northern Tablelands Region Office before amalgamation with the Northern Region as it is known today.
He was passionate about learning and ensuring that Aboriginal people have access to education, Land Rights, legal and children’s services and believed that economic participation for our people and communities is essential.
Until his passing, Lee continued to live in Guyra and enjoyed time with family and friends along with driving his old Holden around, which he loved.
NSWALC Councillor for the Northern Region Cr Charles Lynch said, “Lee will be sadly missed but forever remembered. I, and many others, have many fond memories as we worked together in the late nineties and our friendship has endured over time”.
“Lee was completely dedicated to his people, family, and the rights of Aboriginal people”.
He was a thinker before his time, intelligent, energetic and generous. He always thought outside the square, and inspired me and many others to be better people. Lee’s friendship was unwavering for those who crossed his path and something I always appreciated,” he said.
“On behalf of the Land Rights Network, I send my deep condolences to the Patterson family at this very sad time.”
Lee’s funeral will be held on Friday the 11thof October 2024, at St Columba’s Presbyterian Church in Guyra, commencing at 1pm.
