Vale Gavin Jones: Entrepreneur, Innovator, Communications Pioneer
The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) recognises the enthusiastic, creative and passionate dedication of Gavin Jones to the advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
"Gavin has inspired our mobs for decades through the multifaceted work of the Vibe organisation in print, radio, online and of course through the very deadly, Deadly Awards," said NSWALC Chairperson Craig Cromelin.
"Gavin was born on the lands of the Ngunnawal and Gundungurra peoples in southern New South Wales, with the family roots were in Bigga, Binda, Crookwell and Tuena.
"Gavin was the Chairperson of the Pejar Local Aboriginal Land Council and was a mentor and leader in his region.
"Gavin's work celebrated and promoted our achievements, survival, pride and culture and reached out to the hearts of our people; that space is now empty with loss.
"We all have an obligation to keep his creative, innovative spirit alive in all of our work for and with our people.
"The Council extended our deepest sympathy to Gavin's partner, family, friends and his colleagues at Vibe Australia and GJC at this sad time.
"We understand Mr Jones' family request that, rather than sending flowers, people donate to the Jimmy Little Foundation, the Go Foundation or the Yothu Yindi Foundation," said Chairperson Cromelin.
