Take Action Early

Emergency heart bi-pass surgery in October 2016 saved the life of Land Rights legend Sol Bellear.

The cardiologist who treated Sol was Dr Raj Puranik of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Redfern Aboriginal Medical Service.

Dr Puranik speaks with OurMob about how to recognise heart issues before a tragedy happens.

Dr Puranik says he decided to work with the Redfern Aboriginal Medical Service in 2009, after becoming aware of how few Aboriginal people were attending mainstream medical services.

Dr Puranik says one of the crucial elements to build community trust is for doctors to take the time to communicate well with patients.
