NSWALC Election Nominations Close At Midday Today

The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council is reminding its members that today is the last day for candidates to submit their nomination to contest its upcoming election.

Nominations close at 12noon and all candidates in the running will vie to represent their region on the Council for the next four years.

The NSWALC election will be held across the state on November 30.

“The election is always a defining moment for the Land Rights movement and all Aboriginal people in New South Wales,” NSWALC CEO James Christian said.

“The Council is empowered to make highly important decisions on behalf of its members, so this is a pivotal election in helping to build a strong and self-determined future for Aboriginal people and communities across New South Wales.”

“I encourage all of our members to lodge your vote, whether that’s by post, pre-polling or by attending a polling booth at one of the more than 160 locations across the state on November 30.”

All candidates will be included in the ballot draw tomorrow at the NSW Electoral Commission offices.

In a first for the NSWALC election, the ballot draw will be livestreamed through the NSWALC Facebook page at 2pm.

“It is vitally important that anyone who intends on running in the election has their nomination submitted on time. The deadline for nominations is strict and I would hate to think anyone missed out on the chance to represent their region as a Councillor due to a late submission,” Mr Christian said.

“There is a checking process that takes place once nominations are received and all conditions must be adhered to so please don’t leave it to chance if you are thinking of nominating. Get your forms in urgently to ensure you don’t miss out. Equally, if there are any issues that need to be resolved, give yourself the chance to have them sorted before the deadline expires.”

If you want to confirm that you and the members nominating you are on the Regional Rolls provided to the Electoral Commission for the purposes of the election, you can contact the Office of the Registrar on 8633 1266.

A reminder – nominations close at 12noon TODAY!
