Celebrating Culture, Health and Wellness

Nine teams of Elders from across the southern Sydney region gathered at the Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre in Miller during Seniors Week 2017, for the 7th annual Elders Olympic Games.

The 2017 teams were the Black Cockatoos (Tahmoor), Budyari Elders (Miller), Liverpool/Fairfield Elders, Condell Park Elders, Tharawal AMS 1, Tharawal AMS 2, Tharawal AMS 3 (Airds), Baabayn Elders and the Wolkara Elders (both from the Blacktown LGA).

The winners were the Budyari Elders, on home ground.

The Elders Olympics was hosted by the Macarthur Disability Services with a range of partners, including Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council and its health arm Marumali Aboriginal Medical Service, Tharawal Local Aboriginal Land Council and Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation.

Other organisations were NSW Government Communities, Sport and Recreation, Belgravia Leisure, South West Sydney Primary Health Network, South West Sydney Local Health District, Liverpool City Council and Wests Tigers.

And the favourite event this year? The football toss led by Wests Tigers U20 players Tom Mikaele and Oscar Tui.
