The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) is pleased to inform the Land Rights Network that the NSWALC Annual Report 2023-2024 is now available online.
The NSWALC Annual Report was presented to The Hon. David Harris MP, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Treaty on 31 October 2024.
Some highlights from the NSWALC Annual Report 2023-2024 include:
- Lodgement of more than 750 new land claims across the 2023-2024 reporting period with 474 claims resolved, equating to 1,989 hectares of land returned across 55 different LALCs.
- The launch of NSWALC’s new online portal, Corroborate to reduce the compliance burden by simplifying the system and providing LALCs with access to resources.
- Approval of over $7.3 million in grant funding for communities.
- Disbursement of $1,880,147 in grant funding via the NSWALC Fishing Fund (NFF).
- Funding of $128,000 for 17 events via the Regional Event Grants Program.
- $350,000 in grants to six LALCs for the Land Warriors Junior Ranger Program.
- Redevelopment of mandatory governance training for LALC Board Members, to include a self-paced online course and customised face-to face workshops.
- Coordination of the Aboriginal Community Connectors initiative, operating in six areas across the reporting period.
- Continued advocacy for increased Aboriginal ownership, control and management of lands and waters, fisheries and other natural resources, National Parks, and lands used by the broader public.
- Continued role as Co-Chair of the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (NSW CAPO) and host of the NSW CAPO Secretariat, which coordinates CAPO’s work in the NSW Closing the Gap partnership.
- The election and establishment of the new Council in early 2024.
