Make sure your voice is heard.
Elections are a powerful opportunity for Aboriginal peoples across NSW and beyond to have their say and shape the future of this country. Our vote is not just a right — it is a legacy of generations of resistance, advocacy and strength.
As you know, this year marks the 60th anniversary of the 1965 Freedom Ride, a moment that galvanised national attention and built on the efforts of leaders like Uncle William Cooper and Aunty Pearl Gibbs. Their relentless push for justice led to the 1962 change in law that granted all Aboriginal people the right to vote in federal elections.
By voting tomorrow, we honour those who came before us — and take our rightful place in deciding what comes next. Every vote makes a difference, and your voice matters.

Do I need Photo ID to Vote
You do not need photo ID to vote in a federal election. When you go to vote, you will be asked three questions: your name, where you live, and whether you have voted before in this election.
However, to make voting easier, bring something with your name and address, like a driver’s licence, Medicare card, or utility bill.
This Network Message is not just about participating in a democratic process – it’s about ensuring the voices of Aboriginal peoples are heard, and that we are represented and counted at every level of decision-making.
If you’re engaging with community members in your work, school, or socially today, please help share this important message: check where to vote, make a plan to vote, and encourage others to have their say.
Thank you for your continued support in empowering our communities to be active in shaping the future of Aboriginal peoples across NSW and beyond.
