Network Message: NSWALC Unveils New Organisational Artwork

The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) launches new organisational artwork, a powerful visual piece that marks Council’s ongoing commitment to Land Rights, Culture, and Community.

Unveiled today at the 2026 Koori Knockout, the commissioned piece was created by proud Gamilaroi and Wiradjuri man Sean Kinchela. As a painter, graphic designer, and photographer, Sean’s work highlights the deep connections, sacred custodianship, and responsibilities shared by Aboriginal people across New South Wales.

The artwork will serve as a core element of NSWALC’s visual identity, featuring prominently across merchandise, clothing, digital spaces and assets.

Sean Kinchela’s design weaves a rich narrative of the Land Rights Network and pays tribute to the Land Rights Legends whose fierce fight in the 1970s and beyond, built NSWALC’s foundation. At its heart is a tree that pays homage to the tree in NSWALC’s iconic logo. The artwork depicts the nine Councillors sitting at camps, with their vital work of serving their communities and carrying on the legacy of those original fighters today.

The outer patterns signify the sacred duty of custodianship, showing human and native animal footprints tracking side by side on a shared journey to protect Country, Waterways, and Community. Moving outward, various regional designs represent the geographical diversity of NSW – from the dry, arid interior to lush coastal and bushland environments. Raised black fists symbolise the Unity, Passion, Responsibility, and Power of our Ancestors.

Sean’s business, Local Famous is well-recognised. He’s the talent behind the Parramatta Eels’ Indigenous Round jerseys, a multi-year designer for Steeden footballs, and the winner of the 2025 Indigenous Storytellers Scholarship.

Alongside his creative achievements, Kinchela has also dedicated his life to Aboriginal health, spent seven years preventing otitis media in schoolchildren, and currently serves as a Communications Officer for the We Breathe – Tackling Indigenous Smoking team on the South Coast of NSW.

He also teaches art workshops to children in out-of-home care, using his skills to foster cultural pride in the next generation.

NSWALC is honoured to carry Sean Kinchela’s art forward into the Land Rights movement, standing united for future generations.
