NSW Government Carbon on Country funding EOI is open

Expressions of interest are now open for NSW Aboriginal organisations seeking to own and manage their own carbon project.

The NSW Government will work in partnership with successful applicants to:

  • plan and design their project, including access to legal, financial and technical support
  • register their carbon project as an Environmental Plantings project under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) scheme.

Three Months until the NSW Aboriginal Land Council Elections

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council election date has been set for Saturday, 24 February 2024.

The NSW Electoral Commission will run the election.

Key Dates

  • Close of Rolls – 6 December 2023
  • Nominations Open – 2 January 2024
  • Postal Vote Applications Open – 8 January 2024
  • Nominations Close – 30 January 2024 (Noon)
  • Election Day – Saturday, 24 February 2024

Grace Toomey stands down as Councillor for the Central Region

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) Councillor for the Central Region, Grace Toomey has been disqualified from holding office pursuant to s132(1)(i) of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 and has stood down.

Grace undertook a onetime secondary employment without approval of the Council and despite donating her remuneration, was disqualified as a result.…

Misinformation and Disinformation leading up to the Voice Referendum

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) has now published the Referendum Yes and No case essays on its website.

The purpose of the case essays is for each side of the debate to present its case and inform the Australian public.

A hard copy of both case essays and the AEC’s official guide to participating in the 2023 Referendum will also be distributed to each Australian household in the weeks leading up to the vote.…

NSWALC Council Communique – Meeting 444

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) met for its 444th meeting in Parramatta on Wednesday and Thursday June 14 and 15, 2023.

LALCs hear exciting renewable energy opportunities

The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) collaborated with the UTS Indigenous Land and Justice Research Group, and the First Nations Clean Energy Network to deliver a workshop exploring economic opportunities in energy transition and renewable energy projects.

The workshop held in the Western region earlier this year explored potential ways Aboriginal landholders can play in addressing climate change, and the economic opportunities that might be gained from engaging in the renewable energy economy.…
